Streamlining Zero Trust Enrollment

Streamlining Zero Trust Enrollment

There was an idea floating around about automating the enrollment process, but it hadn't been fully explored due to limited resources.

The potential benefits were clear: reducing IT workload, simplifying the process for employees, and speeding up the adoption of Zero Trust.

But how could we make it happen?

Miro/brainstorming

Where Does Auto-Enrollment Fit?

I collaborated closely with the engineering team, who walked us through the technical steps involved in automatic enrollment.

Together, we mapped out the entire journey on a Miro board, visualizing how admins would set up and manage the process.

Automatic enrollment was a complex process with many moving parts. It impacted not only the configuration but also how IT admins would manage enrollments ongoing. We needed to identify all the areas of the Secure Access dashboard that would be affected.

Technically, this is how it works in the backend

Deploy config file to employees devices

Access work applications within Zero Trust Policy

Generate auto config file

Upload a root certificate to the Secure Access Dashboard

I started exploring design solutions...

I went through several iterations, leading working sessions with my co-designer and sharing progress with the product, engineering, and documentation teams to keep everyone aligned.

Iterations... iterations...

Main concern: admins didn't feel a sense of completion, they didn’t know what to do next.

We addressed this feedback and refined the flow to provide clearer guidance and confirmation. The final design made it easy for IT admins to set up automatic enrollment and understand the next steps.

Launch Day! (Kind of...)

We launched a private preview of the auto-enrollment feature, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive!

Main Scenario: Enabling Auto Enrollment for Zero Trust Access

Collaboration and Communication are Key

Share early and often: Get feedback from stakeholders outside your core team whenever possible.

Identify all decision-makers: Make sure everyone who could impact the project's direction is involved.
